January is generally not popular .. after all the sparkles from Christmas it can seem a little dull …. but there are so many things January can offer …I for will be going into the first month of the year with a more positive attitude …
For a starter January is a new leaf .. a new page … time to start planning .. time for organising .. getting all those ducks in a row and setting intentions .. I love making a list and this month is all about new lists .. and the odd new spreadsheet!
One intention I do have is to walk more .. not only to work but also on a weekend morning .. I think no matter what the weather it will be lovely to get out in the fresh and often bracing air and appreciate the beauty that is around .. its good practice for when we get a dog .. which is no time soon .. but I can dream .. of course we are always hopeful for those wonderful frosty mornings that January can bring .. when the countryside looks like its been sprinkled with glistening icing sugar .. and not forgetting beautiful sunrises and sunsets ..
I need to start reading more so have challenged myself to read a book a month .. now this may not seem like a lot to all those book worms .. but its a start for me .. and this month I shall be starting with Tom Lake by Ann Patchett – a Sunday Times Bestseller .. I shall let you know what I think in February.
I also love .. when its quiet at work .. listening to podcasts or Audible books and I am currently listening to Manifest by Roxie Nafousi .. an inspirational book about manifesting the life you dream of … I have also enrolled on her Vision Board Workshop which is being held on the 1st .. a great way to start the year. However, a fabulous podcast that is released on the first of everymonth is As The Season Turns … presented by Lia Leendertz .. its a fabulous look at the month ahead from vegetables in season to special dates the month has, amongst a whole lot more .. it really is such a positive and interesting listen.
January also offers some pretty fabulous flowers .. from snowdrops covering the woodland making it look like a fresh sprinkling of snow covering the ground to my one of my favourites the hellebore with its bowing head and delicate petals.
Of course I must not forget the cosiest of January wonders .. the homemade soups and casseroles .. after a heady and often indulgent December these dishes are a joy to make as well as eat .. hearty and nutritious is what I crave and that’s exactly what they give me.
So many things to appreciate and look forward to … January really doesn’t seem that bad at all does it.
Niki xx
