I was a latecomer to instagram, I downloaded the app about 5 years ago but it was a while before I actually used it, and then it was only for the filters! It was my kids who explained what insta was actually used for, so then I started looking at other accounts (once they showed me how to search & follow obviously) I loved what I saw .. slowly I started posting the occasional photo adding a hashtag or three. Back then it was generally my kids who liked my photos (out of pity more than anything) .. I remember being thrilled when someone I didn’t know liked a photo or my “likes” got over six!

I think I seriously started insta-ing about two years or so ago … I started replying to other peoples photos & would get replies, I would also get the occassional message on my photos too .. I loved it … I also started to realise it was more than just an app, it was in fact a whole bunch of friends that i’d never met, people who encouraged, people who inspired, people who supported you.

At first i’d only really take photos of pottery and flowers, but through following different accounts I become more creative (or so I like to think), I also invested in flatlays all bought through instagram. Slowly (very slowly and rather nervously) I started to feature in my photos too, I suppose I wanted everyone to see the face behind my account. I also changed the name on my account to match my newly started blog (now a year old .. but that could be another story), now of course I’m fairly regularly on my feed (you just cant get rid of me!!) Mr W also saw how much I enjoyed insta-ing & how much happiness I got from it .. so much so last Christmas he bought me a tripod (for my newly purchased camera) and also another flatlay to add to my collection.

I have also been lucky enough to attend a couple of instameets (you can read about the days here and here), it really is such a joy to meet like minded people. I am also planning on meeting more insta chums in the future.

I have now reached one thousand photos, I find it really interesting seeing how my style has changed over the last couple of years and of course how confidence in myself has grown .. of course I still struggle some days as we all do, but like i said earlier the friends in my phone are always there to make me see that its ok to feel like that sometimes, but also cheer me on. To me insta is not just a pretty coloured square on my phone its a connection to people who enjoy a good chat and who love the same things, who inspire and encourage .. whats not to love?

So as I raise a glass to one thousand photos I am also looking forward to see what adventures I have along the way to two thousand.
