As you know my mojo for baking has returned, you may also know my love for faffing, creating and styling a table .. picnic or coffee table has no limits & has never gone away … if you didn’t know any of this and are in fact new to my blog .. firstly welcome .. secondly you’re about to find out all about the above two loves ..(I also love a few other bits .. so why not .. once you finished this post have a scroll through the rest of my blog (terrible self-promotion there .. but someone’s gotta do it!))
Back to the actual piece about styling & baking .. for a few weeks I have been wanting to make a Clafoutis, I can’t remember where I saw it .. I think it was either online or via Instagram .. it looked delish & seemed super easy to make .. I didn’t have black cherries .. but did have a fair few plums (which I’d hidden from kids .. you have to otherwise they’re gone within minutes), I found a recipe online and decided to make it that weekend. Saturday arrived and I was very excited as we were heading out for a mooch .. I’m not talking any old mooch .. I’m talking one around Neptune .. it was to be my first time in this most amazing & inspiring stores …. as it turns out the mooch was going to be a success .. I managed after a long (long) while of wanting some woven placemats to finally the one of my dreams .. the Maya Placemats .. the perfect style and perfect size.
Once home the need to faff was immense .. I threw the table cloth over the table and the mats looked perfect against the white .. I wanted to go for a relaxed & light summery table styling, so went out foraging in the garden for a few flowers, I love having flowers decorate the table .. for me you don’t need a huge bouquet .. a few small flowers here and there are just as effective.
Adding linen napkins in a pale pink also really complimented the placemats .. I made these napkins a few weeks ago … I do love sewing but I am a very basic sewer .. happy to only have straight lines sew .. I then added wine glasses and some pale blue tumblers .. and some rose gold cutlery, everything was starting to come together .. a few candles to finish the look …. but there was still something missing .. the Clafoutis !!!
It really is such an easy bake with a bit of WOW factor (they’re just the best aren’t they) and for all the wins it tastes amazing .. this particular one was gone within one sitting … the boys and Mr W loved it .. So much so I have since made another using cherries .. and have another planned for this weekend. I would like to try and make a version for Phoebe using non diary products and will let you now how I get on.
Like I said I have now made this a couple of times and I’ve used different recipes for each, I made one with plums & the other with cherries (which I have de-stoned) .. the one that I preferred is the recipe below (from a gorgeous insta account @aparisianjourney)
Of course I had to dress up to eat it .. and at least try one glass of rose .. I mean it would have been rude not too !!!! and I can confirm it was rather lovely .. both the Rose and dressing up.
I am already planning my next table faffing and baking session .. I can honestly say that days like these make me so so happy.
Niki xx
