14th July 2018 : 13.00 .. a date I will remember forever & wonderful memories that will last a lifetime, the day I married my best friend.
During the build up to the wedding some people asked if I was nervous, I really wasn’t, I was just very (very) excited.
The flowers arrived the day before, we used The Great British Florist who are local & who I have met several times before through instameets .. My bouquet was bridesmaid posy and I just wanted something fairly simple and natural .. and it did not disappoint .. I also ordered a bucket of wild flowers and one of eucalyptus along with the hiring of 50 medicine & old bottles (all different sizes and colours) to decorate the table and of course cake flowers. Also on the tables were tealight & tealight holders some that I had bought others were Bonne Maman jam jars, instead of the sugar almonds as favors we used mini bottles of Chase Distillery gin, vodka & elderflower liqueur, which I think was very much appreciated.
The morning of the wedding I got up extra early, as I had in my head that I wanted a large cup of coffee and croissant for breakfast, but wanted it early so that it was just me downstairs, just half an hour of peace, quiet and calm before the fun started. The venue which was The Seven Stars in Ledbury needed to be set up that morning, so we (me, Phoebe, Darcy & Abbi) arrived there at 8.30 .. I loved this bit .. basically a whole heap of faffiing .. every instagrammers dream .. I had an image in my mind of how I wanted the tables and decorations to be, and with the help of my girls we created exactly what I had wanted.
It was then time to go back home and start preening ourselves, we played ABBA loudly, sang slightly out of key & bought the makeup, straighteners, curlers & mirrors downstairs, it was girly heaven, the boys much to their relief went to Mr W’s mum’s for bacon butties! Once I was ready, I started to get Archie & Harry ready, we didn’t have an official photographer as we were having only a small scale wedding and thought that friends and family could take photos, I of course had to get my tripod and camera out, so once everyone was sorted I set everything up and snapped away, I wanted natural photos, which I think we have on most of them.
We got married at Hereford Town Hall, a lovely intimate venue. I think my only worry for the ceremony was I going to cry (I am a very emotional person who cries / weeps at the slightest thing .. it seems to be a family trait) .. but I didn’t .. not once, instead I was just beaming, I felt so relaxed and happy and very excited to see Mr W. Once we were officially Mr and Mrs W .. and Mr W had of course kissed his new wife we had a few more photos and then headed back to The Seven Stars in Ledbury.
The cake was being delivered whilst the wedding was taking place, I had been speaking to Martha from Sendcakehq via instagram and shown her photos i’d found on Pinterest. Mr W & myself decided we wanted a lemon cake, something light and fresh for a summers day. We finally saw the cake once we arrived back at the Seven Stars … We were completely overwhelmed at how amazing it was .. exactly as the photos I’d shown .. and we couldn’t have been happier … the taste … well utterly delicious (a winner if it had been on GBBO). I still haven’t actually met Martha yet .. but I do intend to meet up with her soon and thank her in person .. maybe over coffee and cake.
With prosecco and pimms on arrival everyone was chatting and having a great time, the Seven Stars even created a special cocktail “TheWoods” specially created for our wedding, I have it on good authority that it was very more-ish. Then came food (by this stage I was pretty hungry) .. we had opted for one of our favourites fish and chips (of course with mushy peas on the side) it was delicious, for desert we had lemon tart.
Once the food and tables were cleared away, it was time for the evening guests to arrive along with the band, we knew from the beginning the band we wanted which was Front Runner a local band, who play new and old songs .. we love them and have seen them several times. First though was the much anticipated first dance (I was excited, Mr W was more more nervous excited), after much discussion and deliberation we chose McFly “All About You” which I sang my heart out to (in a slightly out tune way) but it is a song I now sing both out loud (obviously still out of tune) and in my head a lot.
We danced & chatted the night away and all to soon it was time to go home, we didn’t stay in a hotel or go off anywhere, we just loved the thought of walking home with the children and waking up the next morning at home … and it was the perfect end to a perfect day.
It really was the best day, exactly how we wanted it to be, relaxed, fun, filled with chat and laughter .. a day everyone enjoyed .. and now I’m officially Mrs W and its the best thing in the world.

Wow! You did an amazing job with the decor and pics, Niki! Well done and huge congratulations to you all. Having never thought I’d be living in a ‘blended’ family, I love success stories like yours. And please pass on my regards to Phoebe. I can see she’s looking stronger and such a natural beauty. Lots of love, Ruth (Mummylovesrubyandhugo) xxx
