Wasn’t this weekend just perfect, well Saturday was and most definitely perfect for al fresco dining, long leisurely lunches which roll into relaxing evening dining, enjoying those light evenings, a perfect time to unwind forgetting everything that is going on in our busy lives and just slow it all down a little.
I love nothing more than creating a stylish setting & the gorgeous Katie and Shelagh of TUSK Collection know this, so when they suggested I set a summer dining scene using all their latest homeware how could I refuse, my only difficulty was choosing what to use from their wonderful shop.
I moved our dining table outside which worked really well, and its something I will definitely do again, we do have an outdoor table and chairs but its not quite big enough to seat us all as well as all the platters, plates and glasses.
Last year we made our dining table bigger & more spacious by putting a huge piece of MDF on the top of the existing table top*, we painted it white so when there is no tablecloth on it, it still looks fresh and clean, it really does make a difference & its cheaper than buying a new table.
I wanted to create a simple & relaxed setting which could take you from lunch time nibbles to scrumptious evening meals without having to change the table decorations. I love flowers and candles so had to have them featured, one of my favourite items is the candle holder with you can decorate by putting flowers or fairy lights in the glass jar section, so simple yet stunning, I have bought a couple myself.
I love small bowls you can put nibbles or dips in, we are most definitely a dip kind of family, I say any excuse to get some crisps open during lunch to help the dip situation! Adding a few a few wooden platters and some matching plates and platters bring the look together, of course you can’t forget the napkins … anyone else a fan of lovely cotton napkins .. especially when they wash & iron so well?
As you can imagine I had a fabulous time styling my summer dining table, and believe me when I say no food went to waste … I even managed to snap a rare photo of Archie whilst he was on a nibbling session.
I will be taking our dining table outside again for summer dining, and I’m already planning a summer dinning soiree, I just need to the summer to play ball and stay sunny. I hope I’ve inspired you to have some summer dining yourself, I’d really love to hear from you if I have.

ALSO
*I cannot claim that it was my idea for making our everyday table bigger using MDF, I got the idea from the lovely Sally from gettingstuffdoneinheels .. it truly has made such a difference .. and it is so solid & doesn’t move or slide.
